Day 59 – Ferme Esteben – Bidarray

8 miles hike mostly going down. We start by going to the col of Mehatse where we find some cromlech (or stone circle) and some border post. If you remember I found some already and explained that there are 606 of them. #1 starts on the est coast and number 606 ends on the west coast. Today it was 80 and 81.
For the way down, we switch to an alternate route. It rained all night and still in the morning. The locals at the farm tell us that it will too slippery to use the GR10 which has a very steep incline going down that is very technical. At this point I would rather not take a chance …
The alternative route has an attractive name : « the smugglers path « . It is a smooth descent to the very charming town of Bidarray.
At the hostel we meet many people doing the The Santiago de Compostela routes. Bidarray is a cross over between the GR10 and one of the Compostela route. It is nice to hear about their adventures.

Randonnée de 12 km en descente principalement. Nous commençons par nous rendre au col de Mehatse où nous trouvons des cromlech (ou cercle de pierre) et des bornes frontalières. Si vous vous en souvenez, j'en ai déjà trouvé et j'avais expliqué qu'il y en avait 606. La 1ère commence sur la côte est et la numéro 606 se termine sur la côte ouest. Aujourd'hui, j’ai croisé les numéros 80 et 81.
Pour la descente, nous utilisons un itinéraire alternatif. Il a plu toute la nuit et encore le matin. Les habitants de la ferme nous disent qu'il sera trop glissant d'utiliser le GR10 qui a une pente très raide et très technique sur une section. À ce stade, je préfère ne pas prendre de risque…
La route alternative : « le chemin des contrebandiers « . C'est une descente en douceur vers la très charmante ville de Bidarray.
Au gite, nous rencontrons de nombreuses personnes faisant les chemins de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. Bidarray est un croisement entre le GR10 et l'un des chemins de Compostelle. C’est sympa d'entendre parler de leurs aventures.
