Day 54 – Chalet du Col de l'Ouillat – Banyuls sur Mer

Longuest hike of the entire trip : 15 miles and 10 hours and 20 minutes, 700 m ascent and 1700 descent. What a day ….
But a day that ended in the cool water of the Mediterranean ocean.
We start the day at 5 am to have a chance to catch the sunrise over the Méditerranée. It is a steep 1 hour climb before we get to the spot. But it was worth it of course !
From that point on it is a magical scene of mountains and the sea all-around us. As expected in this area, the sun is out and hot but thankfully cooler than usual for the season. The 1st part of the hike after the climb is relatively easy but 2/3 of the way till almost the end is more technical with lots of rocks.
It is definitely a hard day but I am lifted up by the thought of making it to the sea and swimming in it !
We see my friend's husband and son towards the end that welcome us.
And then I make my way to the sea 😃 The water is devine !

C’est la randonnée la plus longue de tout le GR10 : 24 km en 10 heures et 20 minutes, 700 m de montée et 1700 de descente. Quelle journée ! ….
Mais une journée qui s'est terminée dans l'eau fraîche de la mer méditerranéen.
Nous commençons la journée à 5h du matin pour avoir une chance d'apercevoir le lever du soleil sur la Méditerranée. C'est une montée raide d'une heure avant d'arriver au Pic du Neulos. Cela en valait la peine évidement !
À partir de là, c'est une scène magique de montagnes et de mer tout autour de nous. Comme prévu dans les Pyrénées Orientales, le soleil est de sortie et chaud mais heureusement pas aussi chaud que d'habitude pour la saison. La 1ère partie de la randonnée après la montée est relativement facile mais des 2/3 du chemin jusqu'à presque la fin c’est plus techniques avec beaucoup de rochers.
C'est vraiment une dure journée, mais je suis motivée par l'idée d'aller à la mer et de m’y baigner !
Le mari et le fils de ma copine nous rejoignent vers la fin du parcours pour nous accueillir.
Et puis je me dirige vers la mer 😃 L’EAU EST EXCELLENTE !!!
